Flour Tortillas

Prep Time:

Cook Time:

2 Minutes Each

Serves:

8 Tortillas

Level:

Very Easy

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups - All-Purpose Flour (Extra for Dusting)

1/2 tsp - Kosher Salt

1/2 tsp - Baking Powder

2 1/2 tbsp - Neutral Oil or Olive Oil

1/2 cup - Warm Water

Preparation

1: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt and baking powder.

2: On a clean surface, dump dry ingredients and make a well in the center. Add oil and warm water to the center.

3: Slowly combine, starting by mixing the liquid interior with the dry ingredients, careful not to break the walls.

4: Once mixed into a shaggy dough, knead for 2-3 minutes using the turn and fold method or until dough is smooth.

5: Once well kneaded, lightly flour a clean surface. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts. Gently flatten each dough ball with one hand and place on baking sheet. Ensure that the dough does not touch or it will stick.

6: Cover with a damp kitchen cloth and allow to sit for 15 minutes to 2 hours.

7: Heat a pan to high heat. Meanwhile, lightly flour a flat surface and roll out each tortilla into circles with 6-7" in diameter.

8: To help make more symmetrical circles, you can flip a bowl upside down and twist it down into the dough, cutting off an excess.

9: Place each tortilla on the hot pan (no additional oil needed). Cook each side 45 seconds to 1 minute or until dark spots form on the tortilla.

10: Remove and place on a plate, covering with a towel until ready to serve.
